Seminar: Birds of the Evening
Adults, Birding Academy, Guided Hikes
Bird activity at the Center on summer evenings can be exciting indeed. As twilight approaches, the crepuscular animals begin to make their presence known. Birds like swallows, Chimney Swifts, nighthawks, owls, Killdeer, and American Woodcocks can all be active during these evening hours.
We’ll start inside the building with a short presentation on the more common birds who may be active on a summer evening. You’ll learn about some of their distinctive characteristics, foraging strategies, and the benefits of being active later in the day. Afterwards, we’ll head outside for a hike to the West Meadows, starting our journey at the Feeder Grove observation area outside the main doors.
This seminar is led by Director of Education Tom Finley. He has been with Schlitz Audubon since 2001 and always enjoys a beautiful twilight hike to look and listen for birds and other wildlife found at the Center.
This program will take place both indoors and outdoors. Bring a pair of binoculars, or borrow a pair from us, as well as any favorite field guides or apps.
