Photographing Birds with Susan Fink

We are excited to offer this new five-session certificate course taught by award-winning wildlife photographer, Susan Fink. You will learn all the finer points of how to take high-quality bird photographs, from understanding camera settings to editing and enhancing these pictures with Lightroom. We will focus on composition, lighting, in-field techniques, understanding bird habitat and behavior, and so much more. We will also discuss what makes an award-winning photo. Each session will include plenty of time to ask questions and practice skills around the beautiful trails of Schlitz Audubon.
This course is specifically designed for photographers using DSLR or mirrorless cameras. Each of the five classes will have instructional and in-the-field time, plus a homework component to help you retain the information and refine your skills.
We will dedicate an entire 3-hour session to each of the following topics:
- Cameras, Equipment, & Settings
- Understanding Lighting & Location
- Ethics & Field Techniques
- Post-processing Fundamentals & Using Lightroom Classic
- Capturing Birds in Flight
Milwaukee native Susan Fink has won awards for her photography spanning various genres including wildlife/birds, flora, and landscapes. The Center hosted her exhibit of stunning bird photography in our second floor Art Gallery in 2024. Susan’s hope is that through her camera lens, she can share a deeper level of awareness and reverence for nature, ultimately helping to ensure that we all take on a stewardship role in preserving the planet and its inhabitants for generations to come.
