Block Printing Workshop: Fabric Printing
Adults, Art, Wheelchair Accessible
Expand your crafting horizons by practicing the ancient art of block printing to create a one-of-a-kind print! For thousands of years, block printing has been used on textiles to create patterns or images through carving a drawing into the negative space of different mediums, like wood or linoleum. Monoprinting, on the other hand, uses any object to replicate a mirrored image with rolled on ink or paint, which is then pressed into the painting.
In this workshop, we will expand our basic block printing skills by learning how to print onto fabric materials. We will use linoleum, which is a soft, eraser-like material, to carve our creations into. Registered participants will receive a large canvas bag to print on, but are also welcome to bring any other fabric materials. Please avoid bringing anything made from nylon, as it is not suitable for printing.
This workshop is led by Environmental Educator Melanie Ziolecki. She makes her own unique stamps and uses monoprinting to create a variety of projects.
This workshop will take place entirely indoors. All materials are provided. Participants will get to take home linoleum blocks, a linoleum carving tool, a large plexiglass sheet, and their newly printed canvas bag.
