Field Adventure: Birding by Canoe

Embark on a journey down the scenic Milwaukee River and search for birds by canoe. Guided by our Environmental Educators, this river trip will showcase the various species that can be found along the wooded banks, including herons, osprey, orioles, and so much more. Canoes will be equipped with a curated bird guide, and by the end of the journey each participant will be able to identify birds that thrive by the river.

This Field Adventure is led by Associate Director and Environmental Educator AJ Grill, who has been canoeing with the Center for 11 years. In addition, Environmental Educators Laine Cotteleer and Aubrey Fulsaas will join, both of whom are certified Wisconsin Master Naturalists and experienced birders.

This trip is designed for adults with prior canoeing experience, but Educators will give a refresher tutorial on canoeing basics.

With a purchase of 1 ticket, you are purchasing the rental of 1 canoe. Each canoe requires a minimum of two people but can seat three adults comfortably. All canoeing materials, including life jackets, will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars, but some will be available to borrow.

This program will take place entirely outdoors, and there is no easily accessible bathroom. Registered participants will receive additional instructions and directions the week prior to the trip. In case of inclement weather, the program will be rescheduled to Saturday, July 25 at the same time.
