Xtreme Raptor Day will get everyone’s spirits and imagination soaring! Whether being awed by free flight shows, meeting the newest birds that call Schlitz Audubon home, or having your photo taken with your favorite bird, this day has something for raptor enthusiasts of every age! All proceeds from Xtreme Raptor Day directly benefit the Schlitz Audubon Raptor Program.

Wisconsin Wonderland presented by Kohl’s Wild Theatre

This 45-minute show illuminates the challenges of bird migration and what kids can do from home to help birds along their way. Kohl’s Wild Theater presents conservation-themed performances using drama, songs, and puppetry to children and their families and is guaranteed fun for all ages!

Bird Research around the World with Assistant Professor Mark Berres
1:00pm – 2:00pm
Professor Berres will discuss UW-Madison’s avian research including scientific investigations, field work, and connections to everyday life. He will specifically cover: Sandhill Crane recovery in Wisconsin and how, after having been extirpated, they are expanding into the Eastern United States, work on critically endangered species including Montserrat Oriole (West Indies), Black-eared Miner (Southern Australia), and White-tailed Sabrewing (Tobago, West Indies), and work with the Red Junglefowl in Vietnam. Professor Berres’ presentation features beautiful photography and reinforces how birds are vital to the greater ecosystem.

Dr. Mark E. Berres is an Assistant Professor of Avian Biology at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. His research includes population genetics and genomic approaches to enhance disease resistance and productivity in poultry. Mark is a dedicated field researcher and has active projects throughout the world.

Photo Shoot Schedule

Schedule and pay for photos at the front desk in the Great Hall, then go about enjoying the day! Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your scheduled time. Photos take place in the Hearth Room (behind the fireplace). Price is $10 per personal photo, with exceptions listed below. More than one person may be in your photos.
