Invasive Brush Mowing Throughout Winter

The ground is frozen and invasive brush mowing is underway in the west meadows at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. Although conservation staff are making every effort to conserve native tree and shrub cover, mowing of Buckthorn and Honeysuckle will dramatically open the shrub-layer and reduce visual screening along Brown Deer Road and Lake Drive. Management of invasive shrubs will give native trees, shrubs and ground layer plants an opportunity to grow – increasing biotic diversity and the land’s ability detain and filter stormwater. Please contact Marc White, Director of Conservation, at if you have questions.
