Pond Life
Schlitz Audubon is home to several ephemeral and permanent ponds and their surrounding wetlands. Each of these ponds, including Teal Pond and Mystery Lake, offer an abundance of life forms hidden within their depths. Students investigate these organisms hands-on and up close, through the handling and examination of live aquatic life, as well as through the use of special projection equipment. In addition to building aquatic macroinvertebrates and amphibian identification skills, students explore the concepts of food pyramids, predator-prey relationships, animal adaptations, aquatic communities, and biodiversity.
