Guided Bird Hike: Observing Winter Survival Strategies
Adults, Birding Academy, Guided Hikes
Wisconsin’s winter birds have adapted to survive the season’s harsh conditions through changes in behavior, diet, and even their own physiology. Winter can be an exciting time to observe and discover unique adaptations of our year-round resident birds such as the Black-capped Chickadee or our winter migrants such as the Dark-eyed Junco.
This interactive field experience will help you build your skillset and provide an opportunity to ask questions. This program is ideal for those new to birding and experienced birders interested in learning about the birds found on our grounds. Bring your binoculars or camera as well as your favorite field guide or app.
We will meet in the Great Hall and visit the Feeder Grove observation area before heading out on the trails. Your guide is Environmental Educator Aubrey Fulsaas, an experienced birder who specializes in the study of animal behavior. Bring your binoculars, field guide, or camera.
