Guided Bird Hike: Lakeshore Birds
Adults, Birding Academy, Guided Hikes
As winter settles into Wisconsin, the chill it brings freezes and limits the open water available to the birds who use it for food and shelter. However, Lake Michigan provides a dynamic corridor and stopover habitat for our feathered friends. Join us in exploring the shores of one of our greatest resources and uncovering the birds who utilize it to survive the winter.
This field experience is ideal for beginning and seasoned birders alike. Build your skillset by learning how to locate and identify avian insectivores from our trails; we will focus on identification characteristics such as size, shape, color, pattern, behavior, song, and habitat preference. There will also be plenty of time to practice looking and listening for birds to get a better view without disturbing them.
This outdoor hike is led by Environmental Educator and experienced birder, Aubrey Fulsaas. Aubrey is an instructor of the Birding Academy, a Wisconsin Master Naturalist, and a lifelong birder who continues to hone her craft and skill with each program she teaches.
Bring your binoculars, favorite field guide or app, and we will meet in the Great Hall. This program will take place entirely outdoors. In the case of inclement weather, a portion of the program will take place indoors.
