Lake Michigan transformed even more dramatically due to the extreme cold that Milwaukee experienced the past few days. Layers upon layers of ice have frozen on top of the already existing ice shelf, creating intricate ice formations, designs and patterns. The lake itself has frozen even more, but beautiful ice bridges have also continued to form.
With the warming temperatures however, use caution as these features can change drastically, becoming unsafe. In general, avoid lower areas of ice, and stay back from any edge. Visit this weekend to experience this truly unique ice landscape!

An ice bridge.

An ice bridge formation from the first generation of ice canos that formed on Schlitz Audubon’s shoreline.

Frozen branches glistening in the winter afternoon sun.

Frost formed on my eyeglasses in the time I trekked down to Lake Michigan and back.
