Seminar: Using Phone Apps as Birding Tools
Adults, Birding Academy, Citizen Science, Guided Hikes
Sunday, October 25 | 1:00p-3:00p
Technology has made discovering, studying, and protecting birds more accessible. Free phone applications provide birders with convenient tools right in the palm of their hand, including a field guide, bird log, and even an interactive identification assistant. This seminar will provide an overview and step-by-step directions on how to use such applications, including Merlin Bird ID, Audubon, and eBird. Following an indoor presentation, participants will practice using these resources in the field during a guided birding hike. A cellular smart device is not required but recommended.
Environmental Educator Aubrey Fulsaas is your instructor for this program. Her collegiate studies focused on Behavioral Ecology and Animal Behavior. She is a Wisconsin Master Naturalist Instructor, a Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide, and above all, a passionate birder.
This seminar will take place both indoors and outdoors. Bring a pair of binoculars, or you can borrow a pair from the Center. In the case of inclement weather, this class will take place entirely indoors.
