Native Seed Saving Workshop
Adults, Citizen Science, Guided Hikes
Thursday, November 12 | 5:00p-7:00p
During this hands-on workshop, discover how to identify dormant prairie species from their seed heads, seed pods, leaves, and even the smells of certain species. You will also learn how to properly and ethically collect and store seeds for future uses. After an indoor presentation, we will head outside for an opportunity to go off trail and harvest seeds. Please note that the off-trail portion of this program will include uneven terrain and thick vegetation.
Leading this workshop is Restoration Ecologist – Horticulture Lead Fie Thao. After graduating from MATC with an Associate Degree in Horticulture, he has had 10 years of experience working in the conservation field. He is passionate about conserving our green spaces and teaching others about understanding and appreciating the interactions of urbanized and rural natural areas.
This program will take place both indoors and outdoors. Participants should expect uneven terrain and thick vegetation for the outdoor portion of the workshop. In the case of inclement weather, the program will be moved entirely indoors.
Members: $24 | Non-members: $34
