Guided Bird Hike: Winter Residents
Adults, Birding Academy, Guided Hikes
Winter can be an exciting time for birding in Wisconsin. We are fortunate to have many birds who remain throughout the year plus some interesting migrants who only visit during the colder months. Year-round birds we may see are Nuthatches, Cardinals, Woodpeckers and Chickadees. Migrants include winter finches, Dark-eyed Juncos (sometimes called “snowbirds”) and Pine Siskins. If the timing works out, there may also be some migratory duck species traveling south from Canada and northern Wisconsin along the shore of Lake Michigan. Members of this group are the Bufflehead, Goldeneye and Red-Breasted Merganser.
We will begin inside the building and visit our Feeder Grove Observation area before heading out on the trails. Your guide is Environmental Educator Michelle Allison, and experienced birder for many years at the Center. Bring your binoculars, field guide or camera.
