Firefly Monitoring Hike

Wednesday, July 23, 2025 | 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

$17.00 – $23.00

,

Fireflies are the beacons of summer nights with their different flash patterns. Learn how to identify the different species of fireflies in Wisconsin, what their ideal habitats are, and why they flash. Following an indoor presentation, we will hike to a prairie to count the species and then enter the information into the Firefly Atlas database.

Your guide for this evening hike is Environmental Educator Melanie Ziolecki. She has a special interest in fireflies and has studied them for years, including providing data to the Firefly Atlas.

This program will take place both indoors and outdoors.
