Field Trip: Winter Landscape of Greenfield Park

Wednesday, February 18, 2026 | 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
$25.00 – $30.00

,

Located in the heart of West Allis, Greenfield Park’s picturesque 282 acres boasts a variety of mature trees, one large and several small lagoons, and the renowned Oak Leaf trail.

Winter is an excellent time to witness this forested landscape’s beauty, filled with wildlife including birds, deer, squirrels, minks, and muskrats. We will traverse the relatively level 0.6 mile trail around the frozen lake to observe and investigate signs of winter activity. We will practice tree identification skills using bark and other characteristics. If there is snow, we’ll also practice animal track identification. At the end of this field trip, you will come away with a better understanding of local animal life and the importance of successional hardwood forest ecosystems.

This field trip is led by Director of Education Tom Finley. He is an avid explorer, birder, and nature enthusiast, and has been leading field trips for 24 years.

This field trip begins and ends at Greenfield Park. Registered participants will receive further details and directions via email the week before the trip. This field trip is not wheelchair accessible.

Schlitz Audubon will donate a portion of your registration fee to the Park People of Milwaukee County foundation.
