Wednesday, December 2 | 10:00a – 12:00p

Located in the heart of Milwaukee’s East Side, Lake Park is a true gem of the Milwaukee County Park System. Aptly named, this beautiful park was designed in the late 1800’s by Frederick Law Olmstead, the “father” of American landscape architecture. The 138-acre parcel showcases picturesque views of Lake Michigan, ecologically fragile ravines, and the last remaining Indian Mound in Milwaukee. Winter is the perfect time for us to learn about the natural history of this incredible landscape as we look for birds and signs of other wildlife. We will venture to the lake itself to, hopefully, observe some early winter ducks on the water such as Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Red-breasted Mergansers, and Scaup species.

This field trip is led by Director of Education Tom Finley. He is an avid explorer, birder, and geologic history enthusiast, and has been leading field trips for 25 years.

The field trip begins and ends at Lake Park. Participants will need to provide their own transportation to and from the park. We will meet at the large parking lot next to Lake Shore Bistro. Participants should be in good cardiovascular health. Further details will be emailed to registered participants the week prior to the trip.

As a Thank You for this trip, the Center will make a donation to the Friends of Lake Park group.
