Birding Exploration: Nesting Strategies

Sunday, June 29, 2025 | 8:00 am - 9:30 am
$17.00 – $23.00

, ,

Discover the nesting strategies and behaviors of native Wisconsin birds. From the Baltimore Oriole’s pendant shaped nest to the Downy Woodpecker’s cavity nest, you will learn how to identify their homes and habitats. Following a brief indoor presentation, we’ll go for a hike to compare different styles and locations of these structures.

This program, led by Environmental Educator and experienced birder Laine Cotteleer, will teach you how to locate and identify birds from our trails. We will focus on identification characteristics such as size, shape, color, pattern, behavior, song, and habitat preference. You will also learn how to practice looking and listening for birds to get a better view without disturbing them.

This interactive field experience will help you to build your skillset and give you the opportunity to ask questions. This program is ideal for beginners new to birding and experienced birders interested in learning about the birds found on our grounds. Bring your binoculars, favorite field guide or app and we will meet in the Great Hall.

This program will take place both indoors and outdoors.

Members: $17 | Non-members: $23
