Astronomy with Binoculars: The Center of the Milky Way
Join amateur astronomer Jim Hahn for a guided tour of the late summer sky. We’ll start with a brief talk about the mind-boggling environment at the center of the Milky Way. Then we’ll turn our binoculars to the sky to view star clusters, double stars, nebulae, and a starry dolphin! You’ll learn how to find these amazing sights in your own binoculars while Jim offers commentary. During short breaks, we’ll look at some of our new celestial acquaintances through telescopes and giant binoculars. With a little practice, these acquaintances will become old friends that you can visit whenever the sky is dark and clear!
Jim Hahn is a lifelong astronomy enthusiast who got his first telescope and learned the constellations at the age of 8. He built his own telescope at 15 and still uses it. Jim is an active member of the Northern Cross Science Foundation, a local astronomy club dedicated to public outreach. When the skies are not dark and clear, he enjoys bicycling, choral singing, and reading books, websites, and magazines about astronomy.
