Tracking by Snowshoe
Winter is an important time for wildlife, and signs of animal activity can be seen all around our Center’s property. Students explore the winter world of our forests, fields, and lakes by snowshoe! They learn how humans have used snowshoes for thousands of years and how snowshoes around the world evolved based on terrain. With snowshoes strapped to their feet, students embark on an animal ecology exploration by examining the ubiquitous tracks and signs that winter creatures leave behind.
Snowshoe use depends on the amount of snow. If there is not adequate snow cover, hiking will replace snowshoeing.
