Dig deep into the cycle of rocks and soil at Schlitz Audubon! Students take a soil profile in nature and examine the layers from top to bottom, discovering that minerals are important components of soil. They observe the difference between sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks, both in the way they’re formed and by the way they look. We then search for examples on our Lake Michigan shoreline. By connecting their everyday experiences to the land, students see the importance of rocks and soil to the world.
