Saturday, September 6 is International Vulture Awareness Day! To celebrate, we’re running an adoption special featuring our very own Turkey Vulture, Darwin. The newest member of the Raptors of Schlitz Audubon, Darwin joined the team in November 2024.
Big, beautiful, and often misunderstood, Turkey Vultures play a vital role in a healthy natural environment: As scavengers, vultures help to “clean” an ecosystem, preventing the spread of disease while redistributing nutrients back into the ecosystem. In fact, a Turkey Vulture can detect carrion from up to a mile away!
As an animal ambassador, Darwin provides you with the opportunity to form a new opinion about vultures. His five-foot wingspan and charismatic features are unforgettable! Your symbolic adoption will help us continue spreading vulture education throughout the community by providing Darwin with the highest quality of care, customized enrichment, wellness exams, and a specialized diet so that he can continue to build connections between animals and humans.
