Winter Buds Tree ID Workshop
Tree identification is an important tool for understanding a forest’s health. The diversity and abundance of certain trees can tell us what actions need to be taken to maintain a healthy ecosystem. In this workshop, you’ll learn strategies that help with identifying different kinds of trees we find living around us, primarily focusing on tree buds. We’ll also discuss the ecology around trees and discover which species provide a bountiful habitat for a variety of wildlife. By the end of this workshop, you will be able to identify ashes, maples, oaks, birches, pines, and more. You’ll also receive custom identification resources so you can continue to develop your skills at home.
Your guide for this workshop will be Environmental Educator Jim Thielke. With his degree in plants and fungal biology, Jim loves sharing his expansive tree knowledge and unique perspectives on identification strategies.
This program will take place both indoors and outdoors.
