The Sun’s Neighborhood: Our Place in Space
When you look at the stars, can you tell which ones are closer and which are farther away? Knowing the Sun’s neighbors and its place in space can help you see the night sky in 3D. Amateur astronomer Jim Hahn will introduce you to “The Sun’s Neighborhood” through an indoor presentation. Afterwards, we will head outside for views through the telescopes of Saturn, Uranus, and the Andromeda Galaxy.
Jim Hahn is a lifelong astronomy enthusiast who got his first telescope and learned the constellations at the age of 8. He built his own telescope at 15 and still uses it. Jim is an active member of the Northern Cross Science Foundation, a local astronomy club dedicated to public outreach. When the skies are not dark and clear, he enjoys bicycling, choral singing, and reading books, websites, and magazines about astronomy.
This program will take place indoors and outdoors. In the case of inclement weather, the program will remain indoors.
