Protecting the Night: Understanding Bats and Light Pollution Through Citizen Science

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 | 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
$17.00 – $23.00

, , ,

Spend an evening during International Bat Week learning about Wisconsin’s resident bat species, encroaching light pollution, and how we’re discovering its impact on bats. We will start with an indoor presentation about recent citizen science efforts here at the Center. Afterwards, we will take a short walk on our accessible trails to measure light pollution levels and search for bats.

Leading the program will be staff member, Wisconsin Master Naturalist, and DNR certified Bat Ambassador Matt Ehresman. He has led a project to study the impacts of light trespass on bat species using passive acoustic monitoring at the Center.

This program will take place both indoors and outdoors.

Members: $17 | Non-members: $23
