A Walk in the Woods, Birds of Wisconsin

A Variety of Green to Experience at the Center

Walk in the Woods Green Heron Posing

We’re on the verge of summer! Everywhere you look, a variety of green is abundant, whether as a backdrop for a beautifully colored Blue-flag Iris or Wild Geranium, duckweed covering Turtle Pond, or the creatures dwelling in the ponds like the Blandings Turtle and Green Frogs. Take a walk by Mystery Lake and you may be able to see a Green Heron skulking through the flora, patiently awaiting to hunt frogs and small fish. Countless flowers are beginning to bloom, and Lake Michigan is especially vibrant. Growth is all around us as we head into the new season.

Not pictured but observed: a male Wood Thrush singing somewhere in the thicket of the Green Tree Loop, and a Monarch Butterfly flitting above the Lake Terrace trail.

Come for a walk in the woods this week and experience a variety of green!
