Birding Resources
Schlitz Audubon has a variety of resources for birders of any skill level. These include in-person programs, educational blogs, and a selection of birding items available for purchase in our Nature Store.
Borrow a Pair of Binoculars
New in 2023: You can check out a pair of binoculars to use during a hike at the Center! We have a limited number of Nikon PROSTAFF P3 8×42 binoculars available during regular center hours. Free to members. $10 for the general public.
Birding Programs
We have something for everyone, whether you are a new birder interested in dipping your toe into this pastime or a longtime birder looking to join a birding community or gain more knowledge! Here are the different types of birding programming we offer for adults.
Bird Club
Bird Club is a gathering with others who have a shared interest – birding! It is free to attend and birders of all skill levels are welcome. Like all of our nature clubs, it intends to provide meaningful experiences and foster a sense of community at the Center. Most months it meets on Wednesday evenings, but in the winter Bird Club gathers on Saturday mornings.
Bird Walks
Hike our trails searching for birds! All those interested in birding are invited to attend these free guided bird walks, which take place in the morning on the second Saturday of the month and more often during spring migration. This is a great opportunity for new birders to learn and practice bird identification.
Educational Programs & Workshops
Birding programs and workshops are educational experiences that focus on helping birders gain deeper knowledge on a specific topic. These programs include Birding for Beginners, Birding Exploration, and our Raptor ID Workshop, with many taking place during times of peak migration.
Field Trips
Our field trips take you to other regional birding hot spots guided by our naturalist experts. Locations include Horicon Marsh, Forest Beach Migratory Preserve, Kettle Moraine, and more. Field trips are a way to immerse yourself in a different ecosystem and learn the details of a new habitat, often seeing and hearing a variety of bird species.
