Wednesday, June 25, 2025 | 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
$50.00 – $65.00Adults, Field Trips, Guided Hikes
The Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest is a beautifully preserved landscape which harkens back to Wisconsin’s epic geologic past. Created near the end of the last Ice Age, some 10 – 12,000 years ago, there are rich forests, abundant wetlands and resplendent prairies which flourish with floristic beauty. Our day begins at the Forest Headquarters on Hwy 59 just west of the Town of Eagle, WI. After a brief stop at the informative visitor center, which has good restroom facilities, we’ll head out on the Ice Age Trail. As we traverse the undulating landscape with many scenic views, we’ll visit some unique sandy lowlands which boast of Prickly Pear cactus, Star Moss and Long-Haired Hawkweed.
We’ll eat lunch at the picnic area near the building and then drive a short distance to historic Paradise Springs. The cold, clear spring waters here transformed this quiet region into an early playground for tourists from around the Midwest. Your guide will be Director of Education Tom Finley.
The field trip begins and ends at the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest. Please bring your own lunch, snacks and water. A vehicle admission sticker is required. If you prefer, day passes are able to be purchased at the location. Overall, expect to hike two to three miles over sometimes rocky terrain, and be rewarded with fresh clean air and stunning vistas. Further details and directions will be emailed to registered participants the week prior to the trip.
This field trip is not wheelchair accessible.
