$45.00 – $60.00Adults, Field Trips, Guided Hikes
Join Director of Education Tom Finley on a hike at Wisconsin’s newest state park – Lizard Mound near West Bend. After our visit and a picnic lunch, we’ll head to Riverside Park in downtown West Bend, which boasts of scenic hiking trails along the Milwaukee River.
Originally a state park in 1950, Lizard Mound became a Washington County parcel in 1986. Only last year, this very important land, 22 acres in size, again became a state park.
The site has 28 Native American effigy mounds and a one mile long trail. The mounds date back over 1,000 years and the largest is over 250 feet long. We’ll talk about its rich history along our walk. That state actively works with the Ho-Chunk to care for and preserve the site and remove invasive species.
Please bring your own lunch, snacks and water. Portable toilets are available. Further details and directions will be emailed to registered participants the week prior to the trip.
