2020/21 Youth Programming
Schools and families can expect fun, experiential, and educational youth programming in ways that will accommodate and enrich whatever learning format families are choosing. All programs that run at the Center will take place primarily outdoors. Other programs that correlate with Next Generation Science Standards are being adapted so that schools or groups can host a live stream or pre-recorded virtual programming, as well as safe in-person programs with our naturalists.
For Schools & Organizations
LIVE STREAM VIRTUAL Programs
Enjoy the wonders of Schlitz Audubon virtually! Over a platform such as Zoom, a naturalist will present one of our amazing environmental education programs. During a one-hour program, students will have an opportunity to interact with our educators through their computer while learning more about the natural world around us. Some programs will present up-close looks at our animal ambassadors or raptors, while others will dive into weather and ecology.
Pre-Recorded Virtual Programs
If streaming will not work for you, we offer pre-recorded options for schools, organizations, or even individual homes on subjects like Lake Michigan, Mammals of Wisconsin, and Beaks & Talons. These themed programs are insightful, engaging, and educational. Created by our naturalists, each package includes a 20-minute video and complementary learning materials.
In-person PRograms
Schlitz Audubon will continue to offer our traditional field trips at the Center and nature-based programs at your site, including schools, libraries, or homes. Simply review the listings in our Education Brochures to learn about dozens of available programs. Choose from live programs with our birds of prey, reptiles, and amphibians, as well as a diverse array of experiential learning activities. These programs are delivered in a manner that is optimally safe for all involved.
For Students & Their Families
All drop-off programming adheres to our Safety Guidelines.
Nature Mornings
This new series hosted by Schlitz Audubon Nature Preschool is designed for children ages 4-6. Beginning April 20 and continuing through May 27, Nature Mornings will meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings for 2 1/2 hours. The program will utilize the Center’s outstanding nature trails, as well as our new outdoor classroom. We’ll provide children with positive, authentic, and safe experiences in nature, while also giving them opportunities to socialize and make new friends.
Field Days
Participants in our new Field Days program will engage in educational activities while exploring seasonal changes outdoors. Offered on Wednesday and Friday mornings and afternoons for students in K5-5th grade, Field Days provide great opportunities for your child’s learning days. No two Field Days will be alike, so sign up for one or multiple sessions and experience the wonders of the season with our naturalists! (Please only select one session per day.)
Homeschool
Our Homeschool program is a rigorous, yet fun science and project-based educational format designed for students aged 6 – 14 years old. Each monthly session combines educational activities and games with take-home learning extensions to help students do a more in-depth exploration of related topics.
Nature Activity Learning Boxes
Your child will discover a fun-filled world of learning and exploration in your own home! Each Nature Activity Learning Box explores a comprehensive bird theme and contains five science-based, hands-on lessons to teach content and inspire creative and applied thinking. All lessons contain an introduction and overview, lesson sheets, activity instruction, a vocabulary list, and comprehension questions. The corresponding video lessons are narrated by Schlitz Audubon Raptor Educators. All necessary supplies are provided with the exception of some common household items. Appropriate for elementary-aged children and older.
