We will venture out on the trails in search of the wonders of winter ecology. This is the one season when animals boldly reveal their stories, with the script written plainly in the snow. The strategies that have become part of the DNA of plants to survive and even flourish in the harshness of winter will be investigated. Senior Ecologist Don Quintenz will explore the science of ice and snow, and how the unique qualities of water protect and nourish the living communities. Snowshoes are provided. If trail conditions aren’t favorable for snowshoeing, we will hike instead.
