Natural Dyeing with Plants Workshop
Saturday, August 17, 2024 | 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
$100.00 – $120.00Return to a simpler time as we learn how to dye natural fibers using plants as our ancestors did. In this hands-on workshop led by Kathy Rincon, you will participate in the entire process of dyeing with plants using everyday equipment and materials that anyone can find. With plants ethically sourced from Rose Boulder Farm, participants will learn how to extract a palette of colors, use mordants, and how to dye natural fibers. By the end of this workshop, you will be able to identify key dye plants and have successfully dyed wool, cotton, and silk. All materials will be provided.
Kathy Rincon is the owner and shepherdess of Rose Boulder Farm, located in Wautoma, Wisconsin, since 2013. Surrounded by forests, prairies, and gardens, she has a flock of 22 Shetland sheep that come in 11 different color gradations of browns, blacks, and whites. With her love of gardening and the wool from her sheep, it led her on a journey to learn about the natural dyeing process. For years, she has been dyeing white wool with natural, homegrown plant dyes to create unique colors in the fibers for yarn and roving.
