Mammals Preparing for Winter

Saturday, November 18, 2023 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am

$17.00 – $23.00

,

Late autumn is an exciting time to find the tracks and traces of active animals as so many are preparing for the winter season. Squirrels, rabbits, meadow voles and more scurry about in their quest to survive the coming harsher conditions. When temperatures begin to drop as the days shorten, it can be a time of building up fat reserves and strengthening coats. Notably, the rutting season takes place in the world of the White-tailed deer.

We’ll journey to the woodlands to see what discoveries await and interpret the stories we find. In addition to tracks, we should see signs of foraging, scat, and more while hiking. You’ll learn how to identify these signs to determine winter animal diets and ecological behaviors.

Members: $17 | Non-Members: $23
