Door County harbors a treasure trove of natural wonders including old growth forests, vast wetlands, and wildflower meadows; sheer limestone cliffs and romantic lighthouses; and sand, cobble, bedrock, and coral reef beaches. This year our explorations will take us to Washington Island, including Jackson Harbor Ridges State Natural Area and a tour of the largest commercial lavender farm in the Midwest. Park Naturalist Kathleen Harris will guide us on a tour of Peninsula Park Nature Center, with a special opportunity to try to have a chickadee eat out of your hand. We will stay in the comfort and luxury of Lawrence University’s beautiful Bjorklunden Lodge on the shore of Lake Michigan. Commuters from Door County are welcome. Interested persons can contact Don for more information at 414-352-2880, ext. 156. Price includes transportation, lodging, interpretation, fees, and meals except for lunch and dinner on our way home at restaurants. You must be able to walk on unpaved trails for distances of two miles over a period of 2 ½ hours.
We leave from Schlitz Audubon Nature Center at 8:30 am on Tuesday and return at 8:00 pm on Friday.
