Citizen Science: Mussel Monitoring
Saturday, August 22, 2020 | 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free – $10Join us for our annual mussel monitoring survey in the Milwaukee River! We will travel to the Cleaver Property, a 40-acre area along the eastern bank of the Milwaukee River owned and managed by Schlitz Audubon. We will access the property’s riverbanks via canoe from Badger Meter Park. We will conduct a survey within the river through the Wisconsin Mussel Monitoring Program. Wear clothing adequate for river wading. No prior aquatic mussel knowledge is required. Canoes, life vests, and monitoring equipment will be provided, but personal kayaks or canoes are allowed. To learn more, visit the Wisconsin Mussel Monitoring Program website. We will meet in front of the Center building and have a brief introduction at the Veranda, and then drive separately to Badger Meter Park for the survey.
This program will take place entirely outdoors. We will practice social distancing when we are able to, but because of the nature of small-group programming, it will not always be possible. For the health and safety of all, participants must wear a mask when you are within six feet of others. Please do not attend if you are sick or believe you have been exposed to the virus. See our latest COVID-19 updates here.
