Brewing good coffee at home can be as simple and rewarding as identifying the birds at your feeder. Join Raptor Educator and Barista Cheyenne Smith for a workshop building both these skills! Beginning with a brief lesson on how coffee makes it from seed to cup, we will then launch into the basics of how to manually brew coffee at home using both the pour-over method (Hario V60) and immersion method (French press). This portion of our class will include understanding equipment, extraction basics, and troubleshooting home brewing.
As we taste test our final products, we’ll explore how the coffee industry affects migratory birds, including those found in your own backyard. We’ll also enjoy a visit from one of our raptor ambassadors whose wild cousins migrate thousands of miles each year to coffee-growing regions.
Tickets include an 8oz bag of Smithsonian Bird Friendly Certified Coffee per attendee and an informational packet on at-home brewing.
