Join our Monarch Larva Monitoring team! This training will prepare you to participate in Monarch Larva Monitoring Project, an international monitoring program. Monarch Larva Monitors go out in small teams from early June to early September to record egg and larva abundance on milkweed located here at Schlitz Audubon. We’ll learn to identify the five instars or larval stages of the monarch butterfly, and the types of milkweed they depend on. This provides important information regarding monarch butterfly distribution and abundance in the wild, as well as milkweed diversity and abundance.
This program will take place entirely outdoors. We will practice social distancing when we are able to, but because of the nature of small-group programming, it will not always be possible. For the health and safety of all, participants must wear a mask when you are within six feet of others. Please do not attend if you are sick or believe you have been exposed to the virus.
