Cicadas & Flying Friends

This summer is unique for cicadas as both a 13 year brood and a 17 year brood will appear at the same time in the United States. Southern Wisconsin will host the 17 year cicadas along with the annual cicada. After learning what makes these insects important to the environment, we will explore a variety of Center habitats listening for their telltale high-pitched hum. On our hike we will search for cicadas and other flying insects and hopefully try to catch some with butterfly nets. 

This program is designed for children aged 5 and older; children must be accompanied by an adult. This program will take place entirely outdoors. However, in the case of inclement weather, an indoor alternative will be offered. Your guide on this cicada search will be Naturalist Jake Collison.
