Cedarburg Bog

Saturday, October 5, 2024 | 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

$50.00 – $65.00

, ,

The Cedarburg Bog is one of the largest and most diverse wetlands in southern Wisconsin. Its 2,200 acres contain deep and shallow bog lakes, submerged and emergent aquatic communities, a small stream, deep and shallow marshes, sedge communities, shrub carr, swamp hardwoods and large expanses of cedar-tamarack swamp forest.

During our visit, we’ll hike through many of these features as we make our way to the heart of the bog, where the southernmost string bog in North America can be found. You’ll come away with a better understanding of what makes this such a unique wetland and how the plants are adapted for this habitat. We will also take a short hike through one of the finest mature beech-maple forests remaining in southeastern Wisconsin.

Your guide for the day will be Education Specialist Shelly Rollins, who has conducted this special trip for the Wisconsin Master Naturalist class. Joining her will be Center Naturalist Melanie Ziolecki. They both enjoy teaching people of all ages about the flora and fauna of Wisconsin.

This field trip will begin and end at the UW-M Saukville Field Station. You will need to provide your own transportation to and from the Field Station. Please bring your own lunch/snacks. Further details and meeting location will be emailed to registered participants one week prior to the trip.
